Description

Kelpie:D is a safe stable and dry boat, her accommodation is clean and comfortable. She sails really well and has taken us on extended tours around the Scottish coast. She benefits from a powerful and reliable Vetus 3.09 engine that we have kept well serviced and maintained. The mainsail is in good condition, the Genoa is being sent for a new UV strip this autumn. She has been wintered ashore for the last 10 years or so and is currently ashore near Oban.
Below decks, the woodwork has been re-varnished and all seating re-upholstered. The sea-cocks are all in good condition, those in the heads were professionally replaced with Blakes 2021.
Last survey 2016 is available.
Westerly Merlins are well known to be really good boats to sail with fantastic accommodation for the size of the boat.

Kelpie:D offers 6 berths in two cabins and including the main saloon.
Double aft cabin with hanging locker.
Forward V berth with opening forward hatch.
The saloon has 1.83 meters standing headroom. There are two settee berths, the port side converts to a small double berth, a folding table,
The upholstery throughout was renewed in 2022 with marine grade fabric.
LED lighting has replaced most of the original.
The galley has a two burner gimballed gas cooker with grill and oven, a fitted cool box, and good storage.
The gas is 'Camping Gas' located in an aft locker in the cockpit, It is fitted with a Pilot gas alarm. the sensors have been replaced 2022 & 2023.
The heads are Jabsco grey handle marine sea toilet, clean serviced and in good order with replacement seals, and all anti syphon piping professionally replaced when the new Blakes seacocks were fitted in 2021.
The headliners were renewed throughout the boat in 2006 and have remained in reasonable order.
She is clean and dry throughout.
The cockpit is of a good size and has a refurbished spray hood, dodgers, and has a fully enclosing boom tent provided.

Construction

Kelpie:D is a fine example of the Ed Dubois designed Merlin with its heavy and safe GRP hull and iron fin keel.
Topsides are in white gel coat with the Westerly decal below a teak rubbing strake.
She has a transom mounted rudder with tiller steering.
The hull is cleaned and anti fouled annually.
Hull mounted anode was replaced 2023.
